Namecheap MCP

Lemon Domains is the unofficial Namecheap MCP server. Connect your Namecheap account by API once, and Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client can answer questions about your Namecheap domains next to the domains you hold at every other registrar. Connections start read only, so your AI changes only what you allow.

  • “Which of my Namecheap domains expire in the next 60 days?”
  • “Is auto-renew on for every domain at Namecheap?”
  • “Did the nameservers change on any of my Namecheap domains this week?”

Connect Namecheap to Lemon Domains

Three steps: create a read-only API key at Namecheap, add it to Lemon Domains, and your domains sync once a day from then on. Connect as many Namecheap accounts as you have.

Step 1

Create a read-only API key at Namecheap

Give it the least access you can

Namecheap API keys cannot be limited to read-only; a key has full access to the account's API, from the whitelisted IP addresses only. Lemon Domains only ever calls namecheap.domains.getList. If your key leaks, turn API access off and on again to issue a new key.

Who can use the API

Namecheap turns on API access for accounts with at least 20 domains, at least $50 in account balance, or at least $50 spent in the last two years.

  1. 1Sign in to Namecheap and open Profile → Tools → Business & Dev Tools → Namecheap API Access.
  2. 2Turn API access on and copy the API key.
  3. 3Under Whitelisted IPs, add the Lemon Domains IP address shown on this page. Namecheap accepts IPv4 addresses only.
  4. 4Enter your Namecheap username and the API key in Lemon Domains.

Open Namecheap API settings

Step 2

Add it to Lemon Domains

  1. 1Sign in to Lemon Domains (it's free), open Connections and choose Namecheap.
  2. 2Give the connection a friendly name, like “Namecheap personal” or “Namecheap clients”. Connect each Namecheap account separately.
  3. 3Paste your username and api key.
  4. 4Click Test connection. Lemon Domains checks the API key and shows how many domains it can see, without saving anything.
  5. 5Tick the checkbox to confirm you understand the risks, pick the project new domains go into, and click Connect and import. Your domains appear straight away and sync once a day after that.
Step 3

What Lemon Domains reads

Synced once a day
  • Domain names (including internationalised names)
  • Status, such as active, expired or pending transfer
  • Expiry and registration dates
  • Whether auto-renew is on
  • Transfer lock
  • WHOIS privacy
Read-only by design

Lemon Domains only ever sends read requests to Namecheap: each integration has a fixed list of read-only calls it may make, so it never renews, transfers or changes a domain. Your API key is encrypted at rest and never shown again.

If something goes wrong

Namecheap rejects the API key
Copy it again with no spaces at either end. Some registrars only show the secret once, so create a new key if you didn't save it.
Namecheap rejects calls from Lemon Domains' IP address
Lemon Domains connects from 2.31.94.66. Add it to the API key's allowed IPs at Namecheap.
Some domains are missing
Make sure the API key belongs to the Namecheap account (or sub-account) that holds those domains. Connect each account separately.

Rather not use an API key? Import by paste or CSV

Copy your list from the Namecheap portal, paste it into Lemon Domains, and you're done. Re-import any time to refresh. Paste or CSV import needs no Namecheap credentials at all.

Open your Namecheap domain list

  1. 1Open your Namecheap domain list at ap.www.namecheap.com/Domains/DomainList.
  2. 2Change the filter to 'All Items' so the full list is visible (Namecheap paginates at 20 by default).
  3. 3Export the CSV from the Namecheap account area, or copy the visible list directly.
  4. 4In Lemon Domains, click Import, paste the list or upload the CSV. Lemon Domains maps columns and previews before commit.
  5. 5Add the Namecheap account with a friendly label so sub-accounts stay distinct.
Heads up
  • Importing instead of connecting? Switch the Namecheap list to 'All Items' first, or you will only import the first page.
