Azure App Service Domains
App Service domains are Microsoft Azure's way to buy a custom domain inside the Azure portal and connect it to an App Service web app. Registration is handled by GoDaddy, DNS is hosted in Azure DNS, and the yearly fee is billed to the Azure subscription.

Connect Azure App Service Domains to Lemon Domains
Three steps: create a read-only API key at Azure App Service Domains, add it to Lemon Domains, and your domains sync once a day from then on. Connect as many Azure App Service Domains accounts as you have.
Create a read-only API key at Azure App Service Domains
A custom Azure role with the single action Microsoft.DomainRegistration/domains/read, assigned to the app at subscription scope. The built-in Reader role also works and is read-only.
- 1In the Azure portal, open Microsoft Entra ID → App registrations and create a new registration named “Lemon Domains” (single tenant, no redirect URI).
- 2On its Overview page, copy the Application (client) ID and the Directory (tenant) ID.
- 3Open Certificates & secrets → Client secrets → New client secret, and copy the secret's Value (it is only shown once).
- 4Open Subscriptions → the subscription that holds your App Service Domains → Access control (IAM) → Add role assignment, choose Reader (or a custom role with only Microsoft.DomainRegistration/domains/read) and assign it to the Lemon Domains app.
- 5Copy the Subscription ID from the same page and enter all four values in Lemon Domains.
Add it to Lemon Domains
- 1Sign in to Lemon Domains (it's free), open Connections and choose Azure App Service Domains.
- 2Give the connection a friendly name, like “Azure App Service Domains personal” or “Azure App Service Domains clients”. Connect each Azure App Service Domains account separately.
- 3Paste your directory (tenant) id, application (client) id, client secret value and subscription id.
- 4Click Test connection. Lemon Domains checks the API key and shows how many domains it can see, without saving anything.
- 5Tick the checkbox to confirm you understand the risks, pick the project new domains go into, and click Connect and import. Your domains appear straight away and sync once a day after that.
What Lemon Domains reads
- Domain names (including internationalised names)
- Status, such as active, expired or pending transfer
- Expiry and registration dates
- Whether auto-renew is on
- Nameservers
- WHOIS privacy
Lemon Domains only ever sends read requests to Azure App Service Domains: each integration has a fixed list of read-only calls it may make, so it never renews, transfers or changes a domain. Your API key is encrypted at rest and never shown again.
If something goes wrong
- Azure App Service Domains rejects the API key
- Copy it again with no spaces at either end. Some registrars only show the secret once, so create a new key if you didn't save it.
- The key has an IP restriction
- Lemon Domains connects from 2.31.94.66. Add it to the API key's allowed IPs, or remove the restriction.
- Some domains are missing
- Make sure the API key belongs to the Azure App Service Domains account (or sub-account) that holds those domains. Connect each account separately.
Rather not use an API key? Import by paste or CSV
Copy your list from the Azure App Service Domains portal, paste it into Lemon Domains, and you're done. Re-import any time to refresh. Paste or CSV import needs no Azure App Service Domains credentials at all.
- 1Open your Azure App Service Domains account at azure.microsoft.com and go to the domain list.
- 2If the list paginates, switch to "show all" or the largest page size so every Azure App Service Domains domain is visible.
- 3Copy the visible list, or export to CSV if Azure App Service Domains offers it from the account area.
- 4In Lemon Domains, click Import, paste the list or upload the CSV, and map the columns. Lemon Domains previews everything before it commits.
- 5Give the registrar account a friendly label (for example "Azure App Service Domains personal" or "Azure App Service Domains client work") so sub-accounts stay distinct.
