DreamHost MCP

Lemon Domains is the unofficial DreamHost MCP server. Connect your DreamHost account by API once, and Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client can answer questions about your DreamHost domains next to the domains you hold at every other registrar. Connections start read only, so your AI changes only what you allow.

  • “Which of my DreamHost domains expire in the next 60 days?”
  • “Is auto-renew on for every domain at DreamHost?”
  • “Did the nameservers change on any of my DreamHost domains this week?”

Transferring a domain away from DreamHost

Unlock the domain on the Manage Domains page, then open Transfer Domains, choose the transfer away from DreamHost link and click Reveal Auth Code. For some extensions the code is emailed to the registrant instead.

Give the code to the new registrar to start the transfer. Most extensions can't move within 60 days of registration or a previous transfer. DreamHost's guide

Connect DreamHost to Lemon Domains

Three steps: create a read-only API key at DreamHost, add it to Lemon Domains, and your domains sync once a day from then on. Connect as many DreamHost accounts as you have.

Step 1

Create a read-only API key at DreamHost

Give it the least access you can

DreamHost keys are created for a chosen list of commands. Tick only “domain-list_registrations”: that key can list your registrations and nothing else, so it cannot renew, transfer or change anything.

  1. 1Sign in to the DreamHost panel and open Advanced → API (panel.dreamhost.com/?tree=home.api).
  2. 2Give the new key a comment like “Lemon Domains”.
  3. 3Under the functions the key may access, tick only “domain-list_registrations” and leave everything else unticked.
  4. 4Generate the key and copy it.

Open DreamHost API settings

Step 2

Add it to Lemon Domains

  1. 1Sign in to Lemon Domains (it's free), open Connections and choose DreamHost.
  2. 2Give the connection a friendly name, like “DreamHost personal” or “DreamHost clients”. Connect each DreamHost account separately.
  3. 3Paste your api key.
  4. 4Click Test connection. Lemon Domains checks the API key and shows how many domains it can see, without saving anything.
  5. 5Tick the checkbox to confirm you understand the risks, pick the project new domains go into, and click Connect and import. Your domains appear straight away and sync once a day after that.
Step 3

What Lemon Domains reads

Synced once a day
  • Domain names (including internationalised names)
  • Status, such as active, expired or pending transfer
  • Expiry and registration dates
  • Whether auto-renew is on
  • Nameservers
  • Transfer lock
Read-only by design

Lemon Domains only ever sends read requests to DreamHost: each integration has a fixed list of read-only calls it may make, so it never renews, transfers or changes a domain. Your API key is encrypted at rest and never shown again.

If something goes wrong

DreamHost rejects the API key
Copy it again with no spaces at either end. Some registrars only show the secret once, so create a new key if you didn't save it.
The key has an IP restriction
Lemon Domains connects from 2.31.94.66. Add it to the API key's allowed IPs, or remove the restriction.
Some domains are missing
Make sure the API key belongs to the DreamHost account (or sub-account) that holds those domains. Connect each account separately.

Rather not use an API key? Import by paste or CSV

Copy your list from the DreamHost portal, paste it into Lemon Domains, and you're done. Re-import any time to refresh. Paste or CSV import needs no DreamHost credentials at all.

Open your DreamHost panel

  1. 1Open your DreamHost account at dreamhost.com and go to the domain list.
  2. 2If the list paginates, switch to "show all" or the largest page size so every DreamHost domain is visible.
  3. 3Copy the visible list, or export to CSV if DreamHost offers it from the account area.
  4. 4In Lemon Domains, click Import, paste the list or upload the CSV, and map the columns. Lemon Domains previews everything before it commits.
  5. 5Give the registrar account a friendly label (for example "DreamHost personal" or "DreamHost client work") so sub-accounts stay distinct.

Frequently asked questions

Does Lemon Domains support DreamHost domains?

Yes. Connect your DreamHost account with an API key and Lemon Domains syncs your domains automatically once a day. You can also import by pasting your domain list from the DreamHost dashboard or uploading a CSV export. Multiple DreamHost accounts are supported with friendly labels so sub-accounts stay distinct in the unified portfolio.

How do I get a DreamHost API key?

Sign in to the DreamHost panel and open Advanced → API (panel.dreamhost.com/?tree=home.api). Give the new key a comment like “Lemon Domains”. Under the functions the key may access, tick only “domain-list_registrations” and leave everything else unticked. Generate the key and copy it. DreamHost keys are created for a chosen list of commands. Tick only “domain-list_registrations”: that key can list your registrations and nothing else, so it cannot renew, transfer or change anything.

Do I need to share my DreamHost password?

No. Connecting by API uses an API key you create at DreamHost, not your password. DreamHost keys are created for a chosen list of commands. Tick only “domain-list_registrations”: that key can list your registrations and nothing else, so it cannot renew, transfer or change anything. Keys are encrypted at rest. Lemon Domains only ever sends read requests. Or skip the API and paste your list or upload a CSV.

Can I track multiple DreamHost accounts?

Yes. Add one connection per DreamHost account, each with its own friendly name. Personal and business logins, sub-accounts, and client accounts all sit side by side in one dashboard.

Does Lemon Domains renew my DreamHost domains?

No. Renewal still happens at DreamHost. Lemon Domains tracks expiry dates and auto-renew status so you know exactly when to act, but the renewal button stays at DreamHost.

Can AI assistants query my DreamHost domains?

Yes. The Lemon Domains MCP server lets ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor and any MCP client query your full portfolio, including DreamHost domains, in plain English. Choose read-only or read-and-write access for each token.

Is DreamHost ICANN-accredited?

DreamHost is not on the ICANN list of accredited registrars. It registers domains through another registrar's accreditation.

Is there an MCP server for DreamHost domains?

Yes. Lemon Domains connects to DreamHost by API and serves your DreamHost domains through its remote MCP server, so Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and any MCP client can answer questions about them. It is independent of DreamHost and not affiliated with it, so the same connection also covers your domains at every other registrar.

Does DreamHost have an API?

Yes. Lemon Domains connects to DreamHost by API and syncs your domain list every day, with expiry dates and renewal settings. Your AI assistant can then answer questions about those domains through the Lemon Domains MCP server.

What domain extensions does DreamHost sell?

DreamHost's price list has 389 extensions: 359 generic, 21 country-code and 9 second-level, as of October 2026. They include .com, .net, .org, .io, .ai, .co, .dev, .xyz, .uk, .de and .eu. The full list is on this page.

Does DreamHost include WHOIS privacy?

Yes. DreamHost hides your contact details in the public record at no extra cost, for the extensions whose registry allows it. Some country-code extensions, such as .us, don't allow privacy at all.

How do I contact DreamHost support?

DreamHost offers support by live chat, email or tickets and help center (24/7 live chat in English and Spanish; phone callbacks as a paid add-on). Its contact page is https://help.dreamhost.com/hc/en-us/articles/218084068-Contacting-support-overview.

What does DreamHost offer besides domain names?

DNS hosting, Email hosting, Web hosting, SSL certificates and Website builder.

What do customers say about DreamHost?

DreamHost has a TrustScore 4.5 out of 5 from about 8,100 reviews on Trustpilot, as of October 2026. Lemon Domains doesn't collect or edit reviews; read them on Trustpilot.

How do I transfer a domain away from DreamHost?

Unlock the domain on the Manage Domains page, then open Transfer Domains, choose the transfer away from DreamHost link and click Reveal Auth Code. For some extensions the code is emailed to the registrant instead. Then give the code to the new registrar to start the transfer.
