OpusDNS MCP

Lemon Domains is the unofficial OpusDNS MCP server. Connect your OpusDNS account by API once, and Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client can answer questions about your OpusDNS domains next to the domains you hold at every other registrar. Connections start read only, so your AI changes only what you allow.

  • “Which of my OpusDNS domains expire in the next 60 days?”
  • “Is auto-renew on for every domain at OpusDNS?”
  • “Did the nameservers change on any of my OpusDNS domains this week?”

Connect OpusDNS to Lemon Domains

Three steps: create a read-only API key at OpusDNS, add it to Lemon Domains, and your domains sync once a day from then on. Connect as many OpusDNS accounts as you have.

Step 1

Create a read-only API key at OpusDNS

Give it the least access you can

An OpusDNS API key with the Viewer role. It can read your domains and change nothing; Lemon Domains only ever lists them.

  1. 1Sign in to the OpusDNS dashboard and open Developer → API Credentials.
  2. 2Create a new API key named “Lemon Domains” and give it the Viewer role.
  3. 3Copy the key (it starts with opk_). It is only shown once.
  4. 4If you limit the key to certain IP addresses, allow the Lemon Domains IP address shown on the connect page.

Open OpusDNS API settings

Step 2

Add it to Lemon Domains

  1. 1Sign in to Lemon Domains (it's free), open Connections and choose OpusDNS.
  2. 2Give the connection a friendly name, like “OpusDNS personal” or “OpusDNS clients”. Connect each OpusDNS account separately.
  3. 3Paste your api key.
  4. 4Click Test connection. Lemon Domains checks the API key and shows how many domains it can see, without saving anything.
  5. 5Tick the checkbox to confirm you understand the risks, pick the project new domains go into, and click Connect and import. Your domains appear straight away and sync once a day after that.
Step 3

What Lemon Domains reads

Synced once a day
  • Domain names (including internationalised names)
  • Status, such as active, expired or pending transfer
  • Expiry and registration dates
  • Whether auto-renew is on
  • Nameservers
  • Transfer lock
Read-only by design

Lemon Domains only ever sends read requests to OpusDNS: each integration has a fixed list of read-only calls it may make, so it never renews, transfers or changes a domain. Your API key is encrypted at rest and never shown again.

If something goes wrong

OpusDNS rejects the API key
Copy it again with no spaces at either end. Some registrars only show the secret once, so create a new key if you didn't save it.
The key has an IP restriction
Lemon Domains connects from 2.31.94.66. Add it to the API key's allowed IPs, or remove the restriction.
Some domains are missing
Make sure the API key belongs to the OpusDNS account (or sub-account) that holds those domains. Connect each account separately.

Rather not use an API key? Import by paste or CSV

Copy your list from the OpusDNS portal, paste it into Lemon Domains, and you're done. Re-import any time to refresh. Paste or CSV import needs no OpusDNS credentials at all.

Open the OpusDNS dashboard

  1. 1Open your OpusDNS account at opusdns.com and go to the domain list.
  2. 2If the list paginates, switch to "show all" or the largest page size so every OpusDNS domain is visible.
  3. 3Copy the visible list, or export to CSV if OpusDNS offers it from the account area.
  4. 4In Lemon Domains, click Import, paste the list or upload the CSV, and map the columns. Lemon Domains previews everything before it commits.
  5. 5Give the registrar account a friendly label (for example "OpusDNS personal" or "OpusDNS client work") so sub-accounts stay distinct.
