Metaname MCP

Lemon Domains is the unofficial Metaname MCP server. Connect your Metaname account by API once, and Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client can answer questions about your Metaname domains next to the domains you hold at every other registrar. Connections start read only, so your AI changes only what you allow.

  • “Which of my Metaname domains expire in the next 60 days?”
  • “Is auto-renew on for every domain at Metaname?”
  • “Did the nameservers change on any of my Metaname domains this week?”

Connect Metaname to Lemon Domains

Three steps: create a read-only API key at Metaname, add it to Lemon Domains, and your domains sync once a day from then on. Connect as many Metaname accounts as you have.

Step 1

Create a read-only API key at Metaname

Give it the least access you can

Metaname has one API key per account with full access; it cannot be limited to reading. Lemon Domains only ever calls domain_names. Regenerate the key if you disconnect.

  1. 1Sign in to Metaname and open your account settings.
  2. 2In the API section, generate an API key if you do not have one, and copy it.
  3. 3Enter it in Lemon Domains with your account reference (the short code shown on your account page).

Open Metaname API settings

Step 2

Add it to Lemon Domains

  1. 1Sign in to Lemon Domains (it's free), open Connections and choose Metaname.
  2. 2Give the connection a friendly name, like “Metaname personal” or “Metaname clients”. Connect each Metaname account separately.
  3. 3Paste your account reference and api key.
  4. 4Click Test connection. Lemon Domains checks the API key and shows how many domains it can see, without saving anything.
  5. 5Tick the checkbox to confirm you understand the risks, pick the project new domains go into, and click Connect and import. Your domains appear straight away and sync once a day after that.
Step 3

What Lemon Domains reads

Synced once a day
  • Domain names (including internationalised names)
  • Status, such as active, expired or pending transfer
  • Expiry and registration dates
  • Whether auto-renew is on
  • Nameservers
Read-only by design

Lemon Domains only ever sends read requests to Metaname: each integration has a fixed list of read-only calls it may make, so it never renews, transfers or changes a domain. Your API key is encrypted at rest and never shown again.

If something goes wrong

Metaname rejects the API key
Copy it again with no spaces at either end. Some registrars only show the secret once, so create a new key if you didn't save it.
The key has an IP restriction
Lemon Domains connects from 2.31.94.66. Add it to the API key's allowed IPs, or remove the restriction.
Some domains are missing
Make sure the API key belongs to the Metaname account (or sub-account) that holds those domains. Connect each account separately.

Rather not use an API key? Import by paste or CSV

Copy your list from the Metaname portal, paste it into Lemon Domains, and you're done. Re-import any time to refresh. Paste or CSV import needs no Metaname credentials at all.

Open your Metaname account

  1. 1Open your Metaname account at metaname.net and go to the domain list.
  2. 2If the list paginates, switch to "show all" or the largest page size so every Metaname domain is visible.
  3. 3Copy the visible list, or export to CSV if Metaname offers it from the account area.
  4. 4In Lemon Domains, click Import, paste the list or upload the CSV, and map the columns. Lemon Domains previews everything before it commits.
  5. 5Give the registrar account a friendly label (for example "Metaname personal" or "Metaname client work") so sub-accounts stay distinct.
