What stops a domain from transferring?
The usual blockers are a transfer lock at the current registrar (clientTransferProhibited), a registry lock, the 60-day window after a new registration or a previous transfer, an expired domain or one in redemption, and a transfer that is already pending. The checker reads each of these from the registry record and tells you which apply.
What is the 60-day rule?
For generic extensions like .com, .net and .org, a domain can't move to another registrar for 60 days after it was registered or last transferred. Country-code extensions set their own rules, so for those the checker flags the window as something to confirm rather than a hard stop.
How do I unlock my domain?
Sign in at your current registrar, open the domain's settings and turn off the transfer lock (sometimes called registrar lock or domain lock). It takes effect within minutes. Then ask the registrar for the authorization (EPP) code and start the transfer at the new registrar.
Does transferring cost anything?
For most generic extensions the transfer fee includes a year of renewal, so the expiry date moves out by a year. Some extensions, like .uk, transfer free by changing the IPS tag. The checker shows the typical transfer price for the extension.
Can my AI agent check transfers?
Yes. The Lemon Domains MCP server has a transfer_readiness tool, and the REST API serves the same check at GET /api/v1/transfer.
Moving domains is easier with one list.
Lemon Domains keeps every domain and its expiry in one place, whichever registrar it sits at.
