OpenFrequently asked questions
Can I put this checker on my website?
Yes. Pick the extensions and a theme above and copy the snippet: an iframe with the checker and a link to the full bulk domain search. It's free, needs no account or key, and your visitors' checks count against their own daily limit, not yours.
Is the embedded checker free?
Yes, for any site, with no account, key or sign-up. Each visitor checks up to 100 names at a time, and checks count against their own daily limit, not yours. The checker links to the full bulk domain search for bigger lists.
Does it slow my page down?
No. The snippet is a lazy-loaded iframe, so it loads only when a visitor scrolls to it, and it sets no cookies and runs no tracking on your page.
How do I check many domain names at once?
Type words or full domains, pressing Enter or a comma after each, or paste a list. Words are checked on every extension you pick, so 20 words on the Popular set is 160 names; full domains like acme.studio are checked as typed. Up to 100 names per search, or 1,000 with a free account.
Where does the answer come from?
Straight from each registry. Most extensions answer over RDAP, the modern replacement for WHOIS; the rest fall back to WHOIS. If neither answers, a name with nameservers in the public DNS is shown as taken, and anything still unclear is marked Not checked rather than guessed. Recent answers are shared between visitors: up to 15 minutes for a free name and a day for a taken one.
Is an available name guaranteed to be mine?
Not until you register it. Availability can change second to second, and registries hold back or reserve some names, which can still show as available here. The register link opens the registrar you choose with the name filled in, and the registrar confirms.
What does Dropping mean?
The name is registered but its owner let it expire, and the registry has it in redemption or pending delete. Unless the owner restores it, it becomes available to register again, usually within 35 days.
How many names can I check?
100 per search and 500 a day without an account. Signed in with a free account you get 1,000 per search and 10,000 a day on the bulk domain search page, and 10,000 a day through the REST API and the MCP server, up to 50 names per call. The checker shows how many checks you have left after every search.
What's the difference between a bulk domain search and a normal one?
A normal domain search checks one name and then suggests others. A bulk domain search checks your whole list in one go: every name on every extension you pick, side by side in one grid, so you can compare a shortlist of ideas instead of typing them one at a time.
Is there a bulk domain availability API?
Yes. With a free account, POST /api/v1/availability checks up to 50 names per call, and the same check is the check_availability tool in the Lemon Domains MCP server. Without an account, GET /api/tools/availability?names=acme,acmelabs&tlds=com,io&format=md returns Markdown for scripts and agents, from any origin. The free tools API docs are at docs.lemon.domains/free-api.
Can I upload a list of domains?
Yes. Import a CSV or text file (the first column is used), paste a list from a spreadsheet, or switch to Edit as text and type one name per line. Download the results, or only the filtered ones, as CSV.
Can my AI agent use this?
Yes. Connect the Lemon Domains MCP server and ask your agent to check names, or call the REST API. Every result also opens as Markdown or JSON, and the Markdown and JSON URLs work without an account.
