Connect Metaname to Lemon Domains

Three steps: create a read-only API key at Metaname, add it to Lemon Domains, and your domains sync once a day from then on. Connect as many Metaname accounts as you have.

Step 1

Create a read-only API key at Metaname

Give it the least access you can

Metaname has one API key per account with full access; it cannot be limited to reading. Lemon Domains only ever calls domain_names. Regenerate the key if you disconnect.

  1. 1Sign in to Metaname and open your account settings.
  2. 2In the API section, generate an API key if you do not have one, and copy it.
  3. 3Enter it in Lemon Domains with your account reference (the short code shown on your account page).

Open Metaname API settings

Step 2

Add it to Lemon Domains

  1. 1Sign in to Lemon Domains (it's free), open Connections and choose Metaname.
  2. 2Give the connection a friendly name, like “Metaname personal” or “Metaname clients”. Connect each Metaname account separately.
  3. 3Paste your account reference and api key.
  4. 4Click Test connection. Lemon Domains checks the API key and shows how many domains it can see, without saving anything.
  5. 5Tick the checkbox to confirm you understand the risks, pick the project new domains go into, and click Connect and import. Your domains appear straight away and sync once a day after that.
Step 3

What Lemon Domains reads

Synced once a day
  • Domain names (including internationalised names)
  • Status, such as active, expired or pending transfer
  • Expiry and registration dates
  • Whether auto-renew is on
  • Nameservers
Read-only by design

Lemon Domains only ever sends read requests to Metaname: each integration has a fixed list of read-only calls it may make, so it never renews, transfers or changes a domain. Your API key is encrypted at rest and never shown again.

If something goes wrong

Metaname rejects the API key
Copy it again with no spaces at either end. Some registrars only show the secret once, so create a new key if you didn't save it.
The key has an IP restriction
Lemon Domains connects from 2.31.94.66. Add it to the API key's allowed IPs, or remove the restriction.
Some domains are missing
Make sure the API key belongs to the Metaname account (or sub-account) that holds those domains. Connect each account separately.

Rather not use an API key? Import by paste or CSV

Copy your list from the Metaname portal, paste it into Lemon Domains, and you're done. Re-import any time to refresh.

Open your Metaname account

  1. 1Open your Metaname account at metaname.net and go to the domain list.
  2. 2If the list paginates, switch to "show all" or the largest page size so every Metaname domain is visible.
  3. 3Copy the visible list, or export to CSV if Metaname offers it from the account area.
  4. 4In Lemon Domains, click Import, paste the list or upload the CSV, and map the columns. Lemon Domains previews everything before it commits.
  5. 5Give the registrar account a friendly label (for example "Metaname personal" or "Metaname client work") so sub-accounts stay distinct.
Heads up
  • Paste or CSV import needs no Metaname credentials at all.
  • Metaname sub-accounts are supported. Add one Lemon Domains entry per Metaname account with its own label.

How Metaname fits into Lemon Domains

Pulled into one dashboard

Every Metaname domain you own sits next to your domains from every other registrar. Same list, same search.

Expiry tracking, finally

Lemon Domains shows live expiry countdowns and filters by expiry window (under 30 days, 31-90 days, later) for every Metaname domain so you stop missing renewals.

Daily sync by API

Connect Metaname with an API key and Lemon Domains syncs your domains once a day. Hit Sync now whenever you want a fresh copy.

Why Lemon Domains beats the Metaname dashboard

  • Every Metaname domain in one sortable list, no pagination
  • Live expiry countdowns and 30 and 90 day expiry windows, not just a date column
  • Project folders for client work, brands, and experiments
  • Multiple Metaname accounts with friendly labels, side by side
  • Daily sync by API, plus a Sync now button
  • Unified view with GoDaddy, Porkbun, Namecheap, and every other registrar
  • MCP server access so your AI assistant can answer Metaname portfolio questions

Ask your AI assistant about your Metaname domains

Connect the Lemon Domains MCP server to Claude Code, Cursor, or any MCP client that can send a Bearer header. "What Metaname domains do I have expiring this month?" becomes a one-line question.

Metaname + Lemon Domains FAQ

Does Lemon Domains support Metaname domains?

Yes. Connect your Metaname account with an API key and Lemon Domains syncs your domains automatically once a day. You can also import by pasting your domain list from the Metaname dashboard or uploading a CSV export. Multiple Metaname accounts are supported with friendly labels so sub-accounts stay distinct in the unified portfolio.

How is this different from the Metaname dashboard?

Metaname is an established registrar, but its built-in dashboard is account-scoped and not designed for portfolio thinking. Lemon Domains puts every Metaname domain into one searchable, sortable list, adds live expiry countdowns, expiry window filters (under 30 days, 31-90 days, later), and project folders, and unifies Metaname with every other registrar you use.

Do I need to share my Metaname password?

No. Connecting by API uses an API key you create at Metaname, not your password. Metaname has one API key per account with full access; it cannot be limited to reading. Lemon Domains only ever calls domain_names. Regenerate the key if you disconnect. Keys are encrypted at rest, and Lemon Domains only ever sends read requests. Or skip the API and paste your list or upload a CSV.

Can I track multiple Metaname accounts?

Yes. Add one connection per Metaname account, each with its own friendly name. Personal and business logins, sub-accounts, and client accounts all sit side by side in one dashboard.

Does Lemon Domains renew my Metaname domains?

No. Renewal still happens at Metaname. Lemon Domains tracks expiry dates and auto-renew status so you know exactly when to act, but the renewal button stays at Metaname.

Can AI assistants query my Metaname domains?

Yes. The Lemon Domains MCP server lets Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, and any MCP client that can send a Bearer header query your full portfolio, including Metaname domains, in plain English. Choose read-only or read-and-write access for each token.

Stop juggling Metaname tabs.
