Connect Domain Name API to Lemon Domains

Three steps: create a read-only API key at Domain Name API, add it to Lemon Domains, and your domains sync once a day from then on. Connect as many Domain Name API accounts as you have.

Step 1

Create a read-only API key at Domain Name API

Give it the least access you can

Domain Name API has one API key per reseller account, which you can limit to authorized IP addresses. Lemon Domains only ever reads the domain list with it.

Who can use the API

Domain Name API serves resellers; any reseller account has an API key under API Settings.

  1. 1Sign in to your Domain Name API reseller panel and open API Settings.
  2. 2If you limit the key to certain IP addresses, allow the Lemon Domains IP address shown on the connect page.
  3. 3Copy the Reseller ID and the API key into the fields in Lemon Domains.

Open Domain Name API API settings

Step 2

Add it to Lemon Domains

  1. 1Sign in to Lemon Domains (it's free), open Connections and choose Domain Name API.
  2. 2Give the connection a friendly name, like “Domain Name API personal” or “Domain Name API clients”. Connect each Domain Name API account separately.
  3. 3Paste your reseller id and api key.
  4. 4Click Test connection. Lemon Domains checks the API key and shows how many domains it can see, without saving anything.
  5. 5Tick the checkbox to confirm you understand the risks, pick the project new domains go into, and click Connect and import. Your domains appear straight away and sync once a day after that.
Step 3

What Lemon Domains reads

Synced once a day
  • Domain names (including internationalised names)
  • Status, such as active, expired or pending transfer
  • Expiry and registration dates
  • Nameservers
  • Transfer lock
  • WHOIS privacy
Read-only by design

Lemon Domains only ever sends read requests to Domain Name API: each integration has a fixed list of read-only calls it may make, so it never renews, transfers or changes a domain. Your API key is encrypted at rest and never shown again.

If something goes wrong

Domain Name API rejects the API key
Copy it again with no spaces at either end. Some registrars only show the secret once, so create a new key if you didn't save it.
The key has an IP restriction
Lemon Domains connects from 2.31.94.66. Add it to the API key's allowed IPs, or remove the restriction.
Some domains are missing
Make sure the API key belongs to the Domain Name API account (or sub-account) that holds those domains. Connect each account separately.

Rather not use an API key? Import by paste or CSV

Copy your list from the Domain Name API portal, paste it into Lemon Domains, and you're done. Re-import any time to refresh.

Open Domain Name API

  1. 1Open your Domain Name API account at domainnameapi.com and go to the domain list.
  2. 2If the list paginates, switch to "show all" or the largest page size so every Domain Name API domain is visible.
  3. 3Copy the visible list, or export to CSV if Domain Name API offers it from the account area.
  4. 4In Lemon Domains, click Import, paste the list or upload the CSV, and map the columns. Lemon Domains previews everything before it commits.
  5. 5Give the registrar account a friendly label (for example "Domain Name API personal" or "Domain Name API client work") so sub-accounts stay distinct.
Heads up
  • Paste or CSV import needs no Domain Name API credentials at all.
  • Domain Name API sub-accounts are supported. Add one Lemon Domains entry per Domain Name API account with its own label.

Domain Name API + Lemon Domains FAQ

Does Lemon Domains support Domain Name API domains?

Yes. Connect your Domain Name API account with an API key and Lemon Domains syncs your domains automatically once a day. Domain Name API serves resellers; any reseller account has an API key under API Settings. You can also import by pasting your domain list from the Domain Name API dashboard or uploading a CSV export. Multiple Domain Name API accounts are supported with friendly labels so sub-accounts stay distinct in the unified portfolio.

How is this different from the Domain Name API dashboard?

Domain Name API is an established registrar, but its built-in dashboard is account-scoped and not designed for portfolio thinking. Lemon Domains puts every Domain Name API domain into one searchable, sortable list, adds live expiry countdowns, expiry window filters (under 30 days, 31-90 days, later), and project folders, and unifies Domain Name API with every other registrar you use.

Do I need to share my Domain Name API password?

No. Connecting by API uses an API key you create at Domain Name API, not your password. Domain Name API has one API key per reseller account, which you can limit to authorized IP addresses. Lemon Domains only ever reads the domain list with it. Keys are encrypted at rest, and Lemon Domains only ever sends read requests. Or skip the API and paste your list or upload a CSV.

Can I track multiple Domain Name API accounts?

Yes. Add one connection per Domain Name API account, each with its own friendly name. Personal and business logins, sub-accounts, and client accounts all sit side by side in one dashboard.

Does Lemon Domains renew my Domain Name API domains?

No. Renewal still happens at Domain Name API. Lemon Domains tracks expiry dates and auto-renew status so you know exactly when to act, but the renewal button stays at Domain Name API.

Can AI assistants query my Domain Name API domains?

Yes. The Lemon Domains MCP server lets Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf, and any MCP client that can send a Bearer header query your full portfolio, including Domain Name API domains, in plain English. Choose read-only or read-and-write access for each token.
